Open Ocean Software
Open Ocean Software is an NSF Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems project focused on open-source in marine robotics: autonomous underwater and surface vehicles, moorings, drifters, and related technologies: sensors, data acquisition, simulation, and more.
We will support existing and new peer-reviewed software projects to improve access, visibility, trust, and reliability.
We will serve scientists, defense research, industry roboticists and educators with solutions to improve reusability and interoperability.
We will grow the community through live events and online forums.
Our impacts will be broad, supporting diverse projects that directly focus on the world’s key issues (e.g., climate, fisheries, defense, energy).
Highlights
Community Day UK
We're hosting a full-day in-person workshop right after IEEE OES AUV in Southampton, UK on 4 September 2026 and we'd love to see you there and hear your ideas!
We're gathering input from the maritime robotics community to shape our priorities around software tools, interoperability, and community infrastructure. Whether you use ROS, MOOS-IvP, Goby, or something else — your perspective matters.
Open Ocean Software warmly welcomes you to our community forum.
